SKYE AND
SURROUNDING AREA

The view from the Shieling
balcony
|
As you can see from the picture above, taken
from the balcony of the Shieling, Skye is a beautiful island.
A few miles away lies the scenic village and island capital of
Portree. Here there are all the usual facilities you would expect of
a small township including: Restaurants, Heritage Centres and
Cinema, many Shops, Library, Harbour, Pubs, Churches, Medical
facilities and much more ...
|
|
|
To the North lies
the stunningly beautiful Trotternish peninsula with its
amazing rock structures. If you have access to a car,
don't miss the mountain road over the Quiairing. |
 |
 |
To the North West is
Dunvegan with its superb castle and active seat of the
Clan MacLeod. All along this road are sites of interest
that the visitors enjoy so be sure to take your camera. |
The West side of Skye is tranqil place. Dont miss the
Sleat Peninsula and the home of Talisker Whisky Carbost
and Glennnbrittle a truly magnificent walking
destination.

Kyleakin
To
the South of Portree is Sligachan, nestling amongst the
world famous Cuillin Hills. Its an ideal starting point for
ramblers and mountaineers alike. If you are not used to
wandering in the wilderness - stay on the footpaths as
compasses and navigation equipment tends not to work
correctly due to the hills magnetic rock components.
If you want to go on a trip to the Outer Hebrides head for
Uig in the North and take the ferry to Uist or Lewis and
Harris.
